Design A Simpler Life For Your Retirement Age
Baby boomers, as you’re getting ready for retirement do you find yourself wanting a simpler life? What if I told you that a simpler life was within your reach through downsizing? I’m Rita Wilkins, The Downsizing Designer. I’ve accomplished a simpler, happier light through downsizing and now I’m dedicated to helping baby boomers do the same.
Emotional Roadblocks Commonly Experienced By Downsizers
When you choose to downsize, you choose a path that will lead to you having more time, more money, and more freedom to do what you want. However, the path to downsizing isn’t always an easy one. For example, many baby boomers who decide to downsize may experience these common emotional roadblocks.
- Sentimentality – Sometimes an item is linked to an important memory. You may fear losing connection to the memory if you get rid of the item.
- Frugality – Many baby boomers had a “waste not, want not” mentality drilled into them by their parents – a generation who lived through the great depression. This can make it hard to let go of items, even if they aren’t currently being used.
- Obligation – Maybe you have a family heirloom, a gift, or something that belonged to your now-grown child that you feel you are obligated to keep.
These are just some of the emotions that can stand between you and beginning your downsizing process.
How Can I Overcome These Downsizing Emotional Roadblocks?
Overcoming these emotions may seem impossible to do on your own. As your Downsizing Designer, I’m ready to help you learn how to acknowledge and overcome these emotions. In fact, overcoming emotional roadblocks is just one of the lessons in my course, How to Downsize and Declutter for Boomers: Find Freedom in Living with Less. This course is designed specifically for people like you – baby boomers who want to declutter and live a simple, happy life in retirement.
